Through the years, we have seen some outstanding examples of modern architecture. Today we get a look at another stunning example, this one located in Park City, Utah. Known as the Crest Haus, the home is guided by the environment, responding to the area’s dramatic landscapes and harsh climates.
The retreat is located on the crest of Parley’s Canyon, providing unrivaled views of the Uinta and the Oquirrh mountain ranges. The home features a concrete volume submerged into a hillside, while a cedar-clad box rests on top. The cube breaks its geometric form, twisting slightly for a unique sculpted aesthetic. The home features passive solar strategies with south-facing windows that flood the interior with natural light.
There are also 14-inch thick walls that help store the heat. Solar panels on the roof provide energy needs, offering net-positive living in the process. The home is the brainchild of Klima, who has designed and created something quite impressive.
